February 5th's screenings offered more insight into the multitude of ways an artist can portray what they feel and at the same time keep a grip on the audience in the hope of imprinting some sort of message onto them. Vito Acconci's almost brutally personal fashion in how he filmed "Theme Song". It's ugly, the filming, Acconci himself looks repulsive, yet his desperation cannot be ignored. Basically I feel the outlying message Acconci is telling me is he lays harsh criticism on people who are constantly craving attention without regard to how anyone else feels, it seems he is unaware of his repulsive state, advancing on the watcher to join him in this wired, drugged-out state, Acconci is only satisfied with company of others suffering with him. Honestly, I don't have much to say towards the Joan Jones film, except for that it scared me A LOT. "Beneath the skin's" visuals had the most resounding effect to me, an assault of tension filled images. "The Amateurist" was the film i enjoyed the most, giving me a sort of requiem for a dream vibe, by showing how naive one can be about there own obsessions, and hopefully by observing the absurdity of this behavior, perhaps to inset a sort of awarness to the audience of behavior that can be totally unconcious. I enjoyed the contrast of the selections of movies this week as compared to previous weeks, allowed for lots of modes of thinking. Having to experience 6 or so emotionally-charged videos can be overwhelming at times......>_< , and watching them successfully even more so, but overall, it's pretty sweet
