this past week...
It was refreshing to bring in a guest speaker to see another professor like interpretation towards experimental films, although i find Carl's input to be highly valuable, it is of course a great tool to be able to experience a multitude of higher intellectual understanding of experimental film. "Vacuum" got things off to an interesting yet cliche film in which we see a man doing something out of the ordinary in an unordinary location with seemingly no defining purpose to why the action is taking place, so basically the only message i got was that this dude has been out in the cold too long and is sick of the weather and is doing the best he can to make it warmer!!! i hope vacuuming that snow gave him as much satisfaction i got out of watching this film, actually i hope he got more because i didn't get much. I was pumped to understand that the next films to be presented gave a really modern personal perspective into a the culture of the middle east, which westerners have mystified over and still see in sort of one-dimensional view. "Les Egares", a film that solidly stood for Arab cultures persistence through the blind-eye the western culture they are living in has turned on them, and though this, they are still a powerful people. "Allahu Akbat", a very exciting film, mind-numbing at times, hypnotic to the fullest degree, i'd like to be able to watch this film and similar ones all the time, trippy mannnn, a def favvv!! "Sad Man" was probably my favorite film, so much said with no words, you could hear words, the visuals complimented everything so wonderfully, everything down to the style of animation, very rough, fractured....wow, what a powerful film...."In this House", I have to be honest i was real tired and maybe wasn't paying full attention to this film, perhaps a second viewing is in order :-p
